In the summer of 2007 I travelled to Cairo, Egypt, to study Arabic and conduct a photographic study of the city as inspired by the writings of Naguib Mahfouz and Ali Ahmed Sa’id. This website presents the resulting report, “Cairo: through the works of Naguib Mahfouz and Ali Ahmed Sa’id” as well as an additional section containing selected photographs that, to me, showcase parts of the lifestyle and culture of the Egypt I saw.

This project was generously sponsored by the President’s Discretionary Award for the Middle East, Harvard University.
